Personality, Character, Reputation...are they different?

This is a question that has had many people thinking. Some say that the three are different, but others say that the three mean the same thing. The question now is: Which set of people are right?

Google listed character as a synonym for personality and reputation. But that is not entirely true. The three do have a similarity in that they all deal with human attributes, but they are totally different from each other.

What is personality?

Personality is how one views one's self. Whatever you see your self to be, that is your personality. You may see yourself as being a good person, a 'thug', a person who is always caught up in the hype, etc. One thing with personality is that it is dynamic- dynamic meaning your personality is ALWAYS changing. You may not want to identify that fact, but it is indeed true. Some girls and guys when they want to look for a guy/girl who they classify as being 'husband/wife material', one thing they always say they look for is a good personality. If you're one of those guys/girls who look at personality, you need to stop. If you look for personality, you'd only be getting a cover up as to who the person really is. People can have more than one personality, and can choose which side to show you.

What is Reputation?

Reputation is how society views you. Like personality, reputation is always changing. in one part of society you may have a very good reputation, and in another section your reputation can be questionable. If many people were to watch the reputation of others to determine whether or not they should or should not associate with them, there would be a lot of people without friends and many people wouldn't be in the happy marriages they are in now. Don't watch a person's reputation because that can lead you astray. You can get a false judgement as to who the person really is if you follow everything that society says about them.

What is Character?

Character is the person who really are. It has to deal with the mental and moral qualities that are distinctive to  a specific person., i.e., no two people have the same character. They may have similar characters, but there is always at least one aspect of that character which makes it different from all the similar ones out there. Character is formed over time, so the activities you engage yourself in help in the formation of that character. If you train yourself to use good manners daily, it becomes a part of your character over time. Likewise, if you train yourself to curse every time someone wrongs you, that also becomes a part of your character. What you feed into your soul is what you will get out of it, and whatever you get out of it is classified as being your character.

In essence, personality and character are always changing, and can be created instantaneously. Character develops overtime from the various things you expose yourself to. When looking for friends, or someone to call a spouse, you should look for a good character, because character is the true self. Personality and reputation are just developed views of a person by society and self respectively.

God Will Teach You What Others Refuse To

1 John 2: 27
"27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him."

Youths in the church are looked down on a lot by older members. They are labelled because of their foolish youthful actions which these older members deem "unacceptable". Instead of trying to correct the youth and lead them down the right path, they spread rumours about them this one minute, and the next minute are in their faces smiling and saying "God bless you". Many youths sit and think to themselves "Why won't they give us a chance to prove our strength?". "If they don't like what we do, why don't they teach us what to do?". This is a sad, yet true fact.

Those are very good questions to ask, especially the latter. These people have the knowledge and skill and wisdom, yet they sit and criticize instead of teach. That is one of the reasons youths are rebellious and don't want to stay in church. There is too much judgement of the youths. Many youths say " I wish I knew what to do, but i don't have anyone to teach me." If you're a youth with these thoughts, there is someone who is more than willing to teach you- the Holy Spirit.
John 14:16- "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."
This scripture shows the holy spirit being a teacher. He will teach you all you need to know. He not only teaches, but empowers you as well. In old days, the elders of the church would take the youths under their wings, and share their wisdom with them. Nowadays, the elders are not so much into teaching youth, but rather finding faults with their youthful actions. Youths are willing to learn, but they are not being taught by elders. That doesn't mean that they still won't learn anything. What the church fails and refuses to teach, the holy spirit will teach. If you commit yourself to being used by the holy spirit, there's no limit to the great things you can achieve.

Yes people will talk and say all manner of things against you, even the very people whom you expect to be prime examples in the church. That shouldn't stop you from being the power-packed young person that you were destined by God to be. You were created to be great, and no matter what obstacles are before you now, you are still going to end up being great. Your latter will be greater than your former. Just have faith in God, and allow his Holy Spirit to direct you.

Change- D.A Dobbs

Every second in any given day provides one with an opportunity to change. Most times, persons go around saying "I'm not ready yet." or "I'm too young. When I get older I'll consider it." and so many other never ending excuses about why they can't change. Have you ever considered the fact that you may not live to see the next second? Or have you thought about the fact that some tragic thing could happen along your path of life, which will then cause you to discard the whole thought of change completely?

For all the people who like to come up with excuse after excuse as to why you can't change for the better, it's not that they're considering change. It's that they don't want to change, but they make excuses for your comfort. You get this hope that they're considering the process of change, when in reality they just told you something for you to leave them alone. Each time you approach these persons about positive change, especially where accepting Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour is concerned, you hear a different excuse every time as to why they can't do it.

As said before, it's not that they're considering it, it's just that they don't want to change. They love the lifestyle that they have so much, and are afraid to let it go. They think about the fact that they won't be able to do all the "fun" things they are doing now, and will end up in a supposedly "boring" life. This is a life they love to live, and changing that lifestyle would cause their "fun" to end, which is what they don't want. Which is where these excuses come into play.

What many people need to know is that God uses change to make the good better. Note also that God is not the only being that orchestrates change. The devil uses change to make the good turn to bad. There are agents in every person's life that influence both these changes. The mistake most of them make is that they end up embracing the wrong form of change, then end up with regrets later. Good for some, they get to make a u-turn and go forward with the positive change. For the not so lucky others, they end up in tragic situations before they even get to think about the fact that they had embraced the wrong form of change.

In life, there will always be persons enforcing change, both good and bad. The results of that change depend on whether you chose to embrace a change for the better, or you chose to embrace a change for the worst disguised as a change for the better. You may be asking "Is it possible for bad to be disguised as good?". The answer to that is YES IT IS POSSIBLE. The devil has a way of presenting our destruction as something good, or irresistible. In doing that, we would be subtly tricked into accepting destruction. It is also possible for good to be disguised as something bad. Again, the devil has a subtle way of doing things. He can cause the good to look just as repulsive as his bad changes should be, which would cause you to unknowingly reject the good and accept the bad.

One needs to know when each is not its own, so we don't end up choosing the wrong thing. I urge all who read this: know which form of change to embrace. Don't just rush into or reject any form of change. Rushing into these things may cause regret later down in life, and statements like "If only I had known." will be flooding your thoughts. Let us all be careful of the change we embrace.

Why Do You Test Me?- D.A. Dobbs

Why do you test me?
and mock my name
"God is not mocked"
That law remains the same
You've sinned once
And out of justice and grace
I forgave you
Then you go and do it
again, and again,
and again, and again
Coming to me in repentance
For your habitual sinning
Do you think my grace
Will always abound?
For your deliberateness
And your practiced sinning?
"Do not put the Lord to the test"
That law also remains constant
Don't think you can abuse my grace
then become spiritually stagnant
And not expect the punishment
to be as constant
as your feigned repentance
Your spitefulness has angered me
And I'm giving you one last chance
But if you abuse it once more
You may never live to see yourself
Make another feigned repentance
But rather you will live
regretting that you tested the Lord
If you think I cannot be annoyed
And that my grace will always abound
Make a U-turn in your thoughts
And another in your actions

Learn to Forgive

A Psalm- D.A. Dobbs

Blessed be the Lord God
Who is called Most High
and Reigns on the everlasting throne
All the earth crumbles
At the slightest touch of His presence
In God Almighty is my trust
For He is, and was and will be
O give thanks to the Lord God
For great things he hath done!
He has rescued the perishing
Nurtured the dying
Given food to the hungry
Healed the sick and ailing
Comforted the weeping
Under the shadow of his wing
Hath he hidden us from all harms, dangers,
principalities, powers. strongholds,
and all enemies that come forth
to destroy us
In you, oh Lord, will I put my trust
For your defense system is flawless
and in You, all is made perfect
Blessed is the Lord God
Who is called Most High
His love, grace and mercy continues forever

Another Psalm-like poem- D.A Dobbs

In my times of trouble
Lord you bring me happiness
Your grace is still with me
Your love still consumes me
And on my table, you still provide meals
In times of darkness
You shatter it with Your light
which is the everlasting light
You give to your people
To shine for you
Lord, you've never forsaken me,
Your daughter
I'm grateful for all the blessings
You've bestowed upon me
Who is like You?
to keep Your right hand on your faithful people?
And to be gentle with Your people
even when they disappoint You?
None can come close
To your matchless name
In you Lord, i will continue to wrap myself
So that I may please you
And become more like you

Still I'll Praise God- D.A. Dobbs

Forsaken
My heart broken
My spirit is in despair
Still I'll praise God

Life is not at its best
No food on the table
Bills are unpaid
Still, I'll praise God

Loved ones are dying
My heart is aching
It seems all hope is lost
Still, I'll praise God

School is a challenge
Due dates are close
The work load is much
Still, I'll praise God

No peace in the home
And everyone is at odds
Not able to get along
Still, I'll praise God

Friends abandoned me
I'm lonely in the flesh
And accompanied only in the spirit
Still, I'll praise God

Words are thrown at me
My character demeaned
My virtue slandered
Still, I'll praise God

My mind is jumbled
And I'm in confusion
Not sure of what I'll become
Still, I'll praise God

My parents are bankrupt
All bills are high
And the circumstance seems dark
Still, I'll praise God

In all my misfortunes
And times of disdain
His name is still exalted
Still, I'll praise God

How Could I Ever Be Alone?- D.A. Dobbs

The nights get long
And the days get dreary
I feel like I have nobody
And that I don't belong
But then You remind me
"My child I am with you."
How then could I ever be alone?

When my friends depart
And leave me hanging
When my loved ones die
And leave me without hope
But then your still voice tells me
"I will never leave you."
How then could I ever be alone?

When I lose all composure
And all that I have
And I just can't seem to understand
Why all things go bad
Then Your voice reminds me
"I am always here."
How then could I ever be alone?

Whenever my thoughts yell
"You have nobody!"
And the people existing around me say
"You have no friends!"
That still, small voice whispers to me
And embraces me with loving arms
Reminding me that I'm never alone

King of Glory Take Charge- D.A. Dobbs

King of glory up high above
Take charge of this life I love
Mold it, shape it, even sand it down
So I may too qualify for a glorious crown

King of glory so loving and dear
Please take charge of all my fears
Remove them, break them, trample them too
So they have no say in what I do

King of glory, great and just
Take charge of all traces of lust
Help me learn to keep my self pure
And to not by others be easily lured

King of glory who was and is
Take charge of me and all these things
Keep me up to your glorious standard
Lest I become lost, torn and staggered

Give Us Strength- J.D. Gordon

Give us strength…
To do the right
As we face the storm, throughout the day and by night

Give us strength…
To separate love from emotions
One is a mere feeling the other is a decision, an action

Give us strength…
Throughout our learning and labouring
So we don’t miss the essential cues of living

Give us strength…
To bring you more joy
And bring each other even more strength

Give us strength…
To reach out and touch somebody’s hands
And daily help someone to walk in your divine plan

Give us strength…
This is our daily prayer
We pray now to you, Abba Father

(Strength, as defined by American Heritage Dictionary is “The state, property, or quality of being strong…The ability to maintain a moral or intellectual position firmly.”)
Phil 4: 13 ‘I can do everything through Him who gives me Strength’

My Past-DOOR-Future: J.D. Gordon

After I walked through the door, it was still immediately behind me. Its shadow was still on my heels. If I had made just one step backwards I would once again slip back through the door. I would have hit reverse into a place I so desperately wanted to walk away from. I have been longing for the change. I dreamt many nights about it. Now as I am standing right next to the door, I must decide whether I am at its ‘entrance’ or at its ‘exit’. I have walked through the door; I must hold my head up, look straight ahead, step forward one step at a time.

Soon the door was a little distant away and to go back would take some falling back, some letting go and some backward thinking. But as I journeyed further and further away, I resisted the thought of going back more and more. Soon the door had become but a small part of my distant past. My emotions started playing tricks on me again so I asked myself, “Are you running?” “Yes! I am running”, I answered myself. I spoke to myself and encouraged myself with certainty that God would see me through.

My past is my past and I must past it to move forward.
If the past keep haunting you, touching you on your shoulder every now and again, don’t look back, move straight ahead. Speak to yourself in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Make melody in your heart to the Lord.
For inside these doors lies my past, your past, but I have walked out, I have moved on, I am not looking back, that is a fact, and I believe I was made for better, so too were you.

The Mind That I Hide- D.A. Dobbs

Inside my head, is a peculiar mind
A mind one can't fathom
Or even begin to understand
In some situations, it's very helpful
In others, it was a detriment
And the thoughts that used to pass through
I cannot even begin to comment

In my mind, I see people and things
Far more than I really should
In my mind some people annoy me
But the thought never left that neighbourhood
In my mind I've had thoughts of death
And inflicting pain
But if i did that, I wouldn't have anything to gain

My mind acts as a filter, and weeds out the few
who it thinks are genuwine, just one and two
And it also plays out scenarios
That i'd want  to happen based on intense emotions
My mind, the killer is what some call it
But that's not what it is
It just overworks, overthinks, and over-imagines

It used to hurt, now it tends to heal
It used to connive others, but now it's real
It used to kill others, now it tries to save.
It used to bury others in body bags
In shallow graves
But now it's transformed, clean, and renewed
It's because of Christ why it never killed you

Designed by Purpose and Purposed by Design- D.A. Dobbs

From birth to modern age
I've discovered many things
From baby days to teen years
I've learnt many ways

I've learnt to play music
From hitting couches, to dining tables and doors
Playing with toy pianos
And hitting rocks on ceramic tiles

I've been a fluent speaker
Younger days till old
Been able to photograph with my mind
And write exemplary

I've had many interesting dreams
Like that of Joseph the dreamer
Drawing was a skill aquired
From pre-preschool years

Finger painting and crayon drawings
And out of line colouring in colouring books
The walls were my drawing board
And pencils were the frame

"We are lucky cows"
The first song I've learnt to sing
Now persons anxiously await
For the dynamic voice that's buried within

All these things happened for a reason
And it happens to all of us
We find that these designed us for purpose
And in latter years, purposed by design

I Believe... by D.A. Dobbs

Firstly, I believe in God and His works
I believe in love
I believe in hard times
And that good times will come after
I believe in having nothing
And having multiples of what was present before it became nothing
I believe people make mistakes
And are able to become better people from them
I believe people can want mulitple things at once
But will eventually learn satisfaction and humility
I believe that people can be selifish
But will eventually learn generosity if shown
I believe people will hurt others conciously or sub-consiously
But will eventually learn the arts of forgiveness and temperance
I believe you can be surprised by life
And at the same time be expecting things from it
I believe not everyone will like you
Even at your best
I believe in happy endings to every situation
Even if a happy ending seems unrealistic
And most importantly
I believe that God holds all lives in His hands
And that He's able to mold and shape it
To His satisfaction

You Will Never See Me Fall- Joyce Alcantara

You may see me struggle
but you won't see me fall.
Regardless if I'm weak or not I'm going to stand tall.
Everyone says life is easy
but truly living it is not.
times get hard,
people struggle
and constantly get put on the spot.
I'm going to wear the biggest smile
even though I want to cry.
I'm going to fight to live
even though I'm destined to die.
and even though it's hard and I may struggle through it all.
you see me struggle...you will NEVER see me fall.

Comfort Me - Diana M

Lord, I need to be rocked, as if to go to sleep.
Father, it’s to my spirit that I need for you to speak.
Some words of reassurance that it’ll be okay...
Some kind and psalm-like melody, to help me find my way

Out of this web I’ve woven, which is my tangled past
And free me from the weight when I feel that I can’t last
Another minute from the pressure that boils from within,
Lord, when all else fails me, help me to begin

To seek You and Your comfort and know without a doubt
That this test too, could come from you and I’ll soon be let out,
Of the holes that I have dug for myself, some which are quite deep.
And I’ll soon be filling them up with the dust I shake off my feet

Then I can stand before You worthy and stand before You bold,
As the treasures for my life on earth you’ve given to me...unfold.

Three Types of Friends

There are 3 types of friends that come into anyone's life: confidants, comrades, and constituents.

1. Confidants: They love you unconditionally. These are the friends that are for you. Whatever you're into, they're into. These are the people who you can trust and tell anything. You cry, they cry with you. You laugh, they laugh with you. Jump off a cliff, they jump with you. That's the closeness of a confidant. In the life of every christian, a confidant IS necessary. You can't be a David unless you find a Jonathan in your life. You will need that person who will motivate you when you need it, who gives you their 100% support, and who is able to scold you when you're wrong. If that person cannot find it within them self to tell u that u are wrong, they are NOT a confidant.

2. Constituents: These are the people that are not for you, but they are for what you are for. They work with you, team up with you, and labour with you but they aren't for u. Whatever you have that can benefit them, they will stick to you and use whatever it is you have to benefit them until someone comes with something better. When that happens, they leave you hanging. Persons often mistake their constituents for their confidants. You have to be careful in telling these persons your dreams. If you tell them your dreams, when they leave you, they will go and fulfill your dream without you. They were never entirely for you in the first place, so whether or not they hurt you doesn't really matter to them.

3. Comrades: These people are neither for you, nor are they for what you are for, but rather they are against what you are against. They team up with you to fight a greater enemy, but once victory is achieved they leave u. These kinds of friends are like scaffolding- They are there when the building is being built, but when they leave, the building remains standing. If they leave, you shouldn't be sad or depressed because these people were never for u in the first place.

Some persons that are placed in your life are only placed there for a season. Once their service time is up, they leave. Some come only to teach a lesson or to open up your eyes, then leave. The others (confidants) are those who God placed specially in you life to help you get through it. These persons help you to excel and are there for u every step of the way. If you manage to have at least 2 in your entire lifetime, then you are a very blessed person. Do you know who your confidant(s) is/are? Or are you mistaking comrades and constituents for them?

Thought #1

“Because God is never cruel, there is a reason for all things. We must know the pain of loss; because if we never knew it, we would have no compassion for others, and we would become monsters of self-regard, creatures of unalloyed self-interest. The terrible pain of loss teaches humility to our prideful kind, has the power to soften uncaring hearts, to make a better person of a good one.”
-Unknown

Everyone makes mistakes.

Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone has some aspect of their past that they are not proud of. The instant someone brings it up bring back memories of hurt, pain, rejection, abuse, etc. Also, everyone has struggles in life that they think are impossible to overcome.
Know this: YOU ARE NOT YOUR PAST, NEITHER DO YOU RESIDE IN THE PAST. When persons know that you were a certain way in the past, they may use it to justify present/future arguments. Though they may talk, you should know within yourself  that your past DOES NOT define who you are in the present, or the future. God can change anyone, even the most evil of persons residing in the world. Everyone can be an overcomer with the right attitude and right company. You have power to help shape your own future.

It is not what people say that defines you, but it's what God says that does.

Ecclesiastes 5:10

Whoever loves money will never have enough money;
Whoever loves wealth  will not be satisfied with it. This is also useless.

To The Hurt and Brokenhearted...

Ever had one of those moments where you have found your self asking "Why me God?" Sometimes we go through some situations, and due to the amount of hurt or fear it causes us, we in turn question God. In doing that, you are questioning God's authority. God has his reasons for allowing you to go through certain situations. All trials come only to make you stronger, so instead of questioning God's authority, you ask Him to take you through it. God doesn't cause you to experience hurt unless He wants to change you. Change comes through brokenness and submission. People are of the idea that God chooses the people who are "holy" or perfect. That is not so. He chooses those who are broken, and have messed up a lot during their lifetime. Examples can be pulled from the Bible: David caused Bathsheba to cheat on Uriah; Moses became drunk at one point; Abraham told a lie that his wife was his sister and almost caused a king to fornicate, and his wife to commit adultery. Though all these things happened, these men were some of the most powerful agents of God in the bible. In that same way, God want to take the hurt and broken and transform them into vessels for Christ, fit for working in the kingdom. So when you go through these tough and challenging situations, just remember that God is taking you on a journey of change, and that they are only there to strengthen you.

The Ghosts of my Past- D.A. Dobbs

From the actions of my past living
I've created many grotesque beings
Ghosts that seem to haunt and linger
In my valley of silent screams

There are times when my overactive mind
Plunges itself to a hollow space
And that's the time these ghosts attack me
Leaving my mind in it's desolate place

In years gone by people would normally say
There's the girl that took my stuff
Left me in pain and scars
Then walked away

Another few at one point could relay
compulsive liar! believe nothing she says
The ghosts attack again
Twisting my mind through a complex maze

But, those times are gone
And a new being being formed
The ghosts that drilled and voided my mind
Left after it got transformed

You too can kill those ghosts
That linger in from your past living
Just transform the pattern of your thoughts
And start living in the light

Walking Minds- J.D. Gordon

If you see a stray mind anywhere near you, please send it home

My mind went walking last evening and has not returned

So I woke up today not being in my right mind

As I got to my office someone said, “Looks like you’ve lost your mind”

So I shared my ordeal

Someone over-heard the conversation and told me I could check the ‘mind-depot’ located on Trafalgar Road, Kingston

I took some time off from work and went in search of my mind

Much to my surprise when I got there, I saw all types of minds, big and small

I saw criminal minds, gay minds, priestly minds, beggar minds, whore minds, godly minds, miserable minds, confused minds, perverted minds, hallucinated minds

Then there was an interesting section with some wreckage such as, make up your mind,

‘Mind Over Matter,’ ‘Out of Sight - Out of Mind’, ‘Mind Your Own Business,’ ‘Would You Mind’, ‘Pay No Mind’, ‘Mind Games’, ‘Mind your manners’, ‘Mind your own beeswax’ and ‘Mind Your Ps and Qs’

Then there were some unused minds in a huge warehouse, there were so many of them it seems as though no one had come to claim these: I saw ‘Peace of mind’, ‘the mind of Christ’ and a whole lot more.

I have since written this blog to tell you that you too can recover your mind, some folks only purpose is to make you lose it; you must be determined to keep it and preserve it.

When your mind goes walking, make sure it returns
